How Many Panels Do You Need?

Working out how many panels you need for any given room is much simpler than you might imagine – all you need is a calculator, a measuring tape, and a bit of knowledge about how well insulated your home is.

The first thing you’ll want to do is measure the length, width and height of your room in metres. Once done, you should multiply these figures by each other, which will give you the volume in m³.

Now, the amount of heat you’ll need will depend on how well insulated your home is, or how well it retains heat. Poorly insulated homes will need 30W per m³, moderately insulated homes will need 25W per m³, whilst well insulated homes only need 20W per m³.

Multiplying the recommended wattage per m³ by the volume of your room will give you the total wattage requirement. From here, you can begin to make a decision about how many panels you need.

For example, if the total wattage requirement is 2000W, then a 1200W IR heater and a 700W panel would be adequate, or if you’d rather have a little more heat that you need, a 1200W panel with a 900W IR panel would work equally well.
