Transforming Home Comfort

We had the opportunity and pleasure to speak to one of our clients, David Yates, about his experience of using infrared panels at his home - a converted barn in Worcester.

Facing heating challenges due to the absence of a gas supply, David's pursuit of a more efficient and effective heating solution led him to infrared panels. Let’s find out how he got on below!

David’s Predicament

David resides in a converted barn, and faced the difficulty of efficiently heating his unique living space. The lack of a gas supply meant he’d relied on LPG heating, which wasn’t particularly cost efficient. After a recommendation from a friend, David decided to explore the potential of infrared panels to address his heating concerns.

The Infrared Test

Eager to test the viability of infrared in his home, David initially purchased an under desk heater as a trial of how infrared worked in his space, and was delighted by its performance. Encouraged by this positive experience, he decided to invest further and go all in on a 1200w image panel heater from Surya Heating.

“The little 180W heater I bought for under the desk worked brilliantly, so I decided to go all in and get a big 1200W heater, though looking back I probably went too high. Regardless, it works so well and keeps me really warm.”

The chosen space for installation was one of the coldest rooms in his home, featuring a high 4-metre ceiling where traditional convection heating was simply unable to heat the room effectively or affordably.

Infrared’s Aesthetic Qualities

David's choice of the 1200W Illiana Nexus Image Infrared Heating panel matched up perfectly with his love for art, as it seamlessly integrated with his room decor, helping it become a focal point within the room.

Visitors to his home were captivated by the unique heating solution, making it a conversation starter and an element of intrigue.

“I love art. Initially I was going to go for a Custom Image but the choice of artworks available meant that the design fit right in with my room.”

Smart Out Of The Box

The inclusion of Wi-Fi connectivity in David's Nexus IR Panel played a crucial role in his decision to invest in this heater. The ability to control and monitor the heating remotely from his phone offered convenience and added value.

“I wouldn’t have bought it if it wasn’t able to connect to my Wi-Fi.”

Impressed by the performance of the installed panel, David is now looking to heat the entire house with infrared panels.

The Money Savings

With his initial findings, David discovered that his heating costs were lower after adopting infrared panels. He was also impressed by the quality of heat emitted by the panels.

“It’s a very comfortable, natural heat, and not very stuffy. You don’t get the circulation of dust and germs like you would with convection heaters, which makes it much nicer to be around.”

David's so convinced by infrared now, that he would recommend anyone to at least try infrared panels, highlighting their modularity and ability to be installed room by room without the need for a significant upfront investment.

Another huge reason for this is the fact that gas and oil resources are finite, while electricity can be manufactured sustainably.

“Most heating right now use Gas or Oil, and they will run out in the future - they’re finite resources, whereas Electricity can be manufactured. In the future, everything will be electric as everything is heading that way. You might as well begin making that transition now, especially as infrared can be installed in a modular way. You can do it room by room, with relatively little investment, and if for some reason you don’t like it, you can just stick it up on eBay and someone will buy it.”

He emphasised the relative risk-free nature of transitioning to electric heating, considering the inevitability of this shift in the broader context of environmental sustainability.

Wrapping Up

David Yates' experience with infrared panels has changed the way he views the heating, comfort and efficiency of his converted barn. By embracing the benefits of infrared technology, he not only found a viable way of heating his home, but also gained aesthetic enhancements, energy savings, and the confidence to now fit the rest of his home with the same heaters.

As the world moves towards a future where electric heating becomes the norm, David's journey serves as an inspiration for homeowners seeking a comfortable, sustainable, and future-proof heating solution.
