we have just had a garden studio built and require a suitable heating 24 hour a day at a low setting mainly in winter time to keep the damp at bay and being able to work in there over the cold months.
1) is this kind of heater suitable for this purpose?
2) if so what wattage would be required for a studio measuring approx 12ft x 15ft x 7ft high.
3) cost of running or formula
The studio is of modern construction and insulated. hope you can help

Answer
Hi Mr Mabbott! Going through your questions: 1) Infrared heaters are ideal for this kind of use, as they help prevent damp and are perfect for warming up isolated areas like the garden studio you have described. 2) From the measurements you have provided, we would recommend somewhere between 900W to 1100W, depending on how warm you'd like your studio to be (some prefer to be cooler, whereas some prefer to be warmer). You could either go for a single 900W heater or go for two 580W heaters, or three 350W heaters etc, as using more than one heater ensures a better spread of heat. 3) If we take an approximate wattage of 1000W based on the figures from question 2, the running cost per hour would be 1kWh (1000W converted into kilowatt hours) multiplied by your electricity rate, the average in the UK is around 15p, so if your heating was on constantly for 1 hour, it would be around 15p per hour, though our NXT Gen heaters operate by switching on and off to maintain whichever temperature you like, so in the real world it would be less than this. Hope this answers your questions, and please don't hesitate to get in touch by calling us on 0116 321 4124 if you need anything else!

Answer
Hi Sean! There is no minimum distance that the heater needs to be from a fridge/freezer, and neither will affect the other when in operation. We advise generally the heater has a 10cm clearance around it, and a 30cm clearance in front of it. Do let us know if you need anything else!
Hi there. I live in a the upper of two flats formed from the conversion of a detached 2 storey house. My flat includes the interior stairwell. I have gas central heating throughout the flat but there is no heating at the bottom of the stairwell and so this area can get very cold and is susceptible to mould forming on (the inside of) the exterior wall. The stairwell is narrow and the best place to locate an IR panel would be the 350w slimline 295 x 1195 mounted directly below the handrail on the interior wall and at an angle to match that of the handrail/rake of the stairs. Would the fixing mounts permit this?

Answer
If you need to be able to tilt the unit, you will have to either adapt the way you mount the panel or use the suspension kits we provide and have two of the ropes longer than the other two ropes, so it can tilt. Please call into the office for further guidance.

Answer
Hi Nigel, it will be fine to provide heat to the stairs and the hallway but it will have minimal impact on the upstairs. You will need at least 1 heater per room unless you plan on leaving the doors open all the time.

Question

Answer
Unfortunately we do not have a fitting to suspend the panel at an angle. You can adapt a fitting to do so, as long as you not tamper with the panel itself i.e the PCB {black box} or the frames (removing or drilling through them) you will not void your warranty.
will be looking to put in a small bathroom which from reading is okay but when siteing the panel vertically does it matter if the rocker switch is at the top or bottom and being a bathroom it would have to be hardwired which our current convector heater is,can the plug be taken off and be hardwired by a qualified electrician and lastly where we are looking at siteing the panel it will be directly facing a glass shower screen approx 1.5 m away,is this okay because i have read not to site them facing windows but not sure if this is because the heat can go outside or because the glass can effect performance, there are no windows in bathroom,thank-you

Answer
Hi, You can mount them vertical or horizontal, it makes no difference. Facing the glass shower is fine, the reason that we do not recommend mounting them opposite windows is because the heat loss will go out of the room. You will need an electrician to wire through a fuse spur if the heater is situated in a bathroom.
Would one of these small heaters help to heat the conservatory in winter. It’s 12ft x 12ft?
I also want it on feet not wall or ceiling mounted as I have a caravan it will be used in as well.
Roughly how much would it cost per hour to run?
Thanks

Posted By: Gareth Robinson 2020-04-08 19:41:18
Answer
The temperature it maintains will depend on what has been set on the remote(thermostat) if you are purchasing a NXT Gen option. Regardless the thermostat will maintain the temperature with the help of the panels. if the fish tanks has its own heating system, this will regulate the water temperature whilst the heater handles the heat required for the room.

Answer
The panels would most definitely help, they work using radiant form of heating. They will heat the object in the vicinity of the panels i.e in this case the tiles, you can always consider a ceiling mount option. Please see the link to show how the heating distribution works: https://www.suryaheating.co.uk/maximising-heat-distribution-using-infrared-heating-patterns

Answer
Hi Khaleeq, thank you for sending across your question! Unfortunately, you won't feel the full effect of our panel heaters if they're covered with wooden guards. However, if you're concerned about the children coming in contact with them, you can easily avoid this by wall/ceiling mounting our heaters. This way, they are out of reach and not a danger to the children. I hope this helps!

Hi Finbar, considering that this material is suitable for a kitchen and our panels are heat resistant, there shouldn't be an issue with mounting our panel on your cabinet, though to be sure you may also want to double check with the manufacturer of the foil or board too. I hope this helps, do let us know if there is anything else we can help you with!

Hi there! Yes the IR Panels can be placed high above a bath, as they are IP54 rated and can withstand splashes of water. We would advise either hardwiring the heater or using a fused spur in the bathroom however. Hope this helps, please do let us know if you need anything else!
I would like to know if one of your infra red panel heaters would be suitable to mount into a laundry room measuring 2.4M x 2.8M.

Answer
Hi Trevor, thanks for getting in touch. An infrared panel would be more than suitable to install here. Unfortunately, unless you are able to provide the height and insulation level of the room, we cannot guide you on what sized heater will adequately warm up the space. We need the height of the room followed by the length and width along with how well insulated the property and/or room is. If you would like an accurate guide on which heater will be best for your space, please feel free to give us a call on 0116 321 4124, or you can send us an email to sales@suryaheating.co.uk.

Answer
Hi Sarah! It won't be a problem to install the panel onto a sloped ceiling, however we would still strongly recommend that you use a suspension kit for any ceiling installations, just to make sure there is adequate airflow between the back of the panel and the ceiling. Hope this helps Sarah, do let us know if you need anything else!

Can you tell me how these work in comparison to storage heaters. How much do they cost to run and when does the heating process happen is it overnight like storage heaters or would they be on during the day?
Posted By: Leanne 2019-11-04 15:23:53
Answer
Hi Leanne! Thanks for getting in touch. Essentially, our IR heaters warm the objects and the mass within the room using far-infrared rays. It is the exact same form of heat the Sun uses to heat the Earth, only without any harmful UV rays so it is a healthy and natural heat source. Storage heaters on the other hand collect energy overnight, slowly releasing this during the day, usually by creating a convection current. A convection current is what happens when the air is heated instead, with the hot air rising and then falling as it cools. This is highly inefficient and often causes cold spots and is also a rather unhealthy form of heat. The heating process is simple, as you decide when you want your heater to be on. With the NXTGen panels, you will receive a remote which connects to the panels integrated thermostat, allowing you to set timers, and other smart features such as adaptive start and automated temperature control, so your heating is on only when you really need it to be. Overall, infrared heaters has been proven to be much more efficient than storage heaters, with potential savings of up to 1/3 - 2/3 more than what you would see with storage heaters. If you have any other questions, feel free to get in touch on 0116 321 4124, or send an email to sales@suryaheating.co.uk.

Answer
Hi David! Yes, we have a manual for our infrared heaters that has information about mounting and installation. Please find it here: "https://www.suryaheating.co.uk/media/pdf/Mirrorstone_Panel_Heater_Manual.pdf", a gap of 5cm is required, which can be achieved using our Suspension Kit. This is available in the 'Accessories' section on our website. Many thanks, let us know if there is anything else you need!

Answer
Hi Valeria, thank your for your enquiry! I have calculated that you would need 6250W to sufficiently heat your flat, meaning that 5 of our 1200W NXT Gen Infrared Heating Panels would do the job perfectly. These 1200W panels cost approximately 11p an hour to run, where as our smaller sized, less powerful panels can cost as little as 3p. Installation costs can vary depending on how much your electrician charges if you want the panel to be hardwired. However, if you want to power your panel using the plug, installation costs won't cost a thing as you can do this yourself! For any other enquires, or for a more in-depth chat, please don't hesitate to give us a call on 0116 321 4124 where our friendly customer service team will be able to assist you.

Hi Anthony! The IR Panel should be fine to use in a room like that, however we would advise pointing the heater away from any mechanical hard drives you may have in your desktop machine, as they have optimum temperature windows. As long as they aren't directly facing your desktop machine, you should be good to go! Please feel free to give us a call on 0116 321 4124 if you need any further guidance!

Answer
Hi Ian! The running costs depend on which energy tariff you are on. As an average, electricity costs around 13p per kWh, which would mean that our 350W IR Panel would cost around 4.5p per hour to run. Unfortunately we do not have any direct comparisons with other brands of heater, however, on average, IR Panels tend to be around 60% more energy efficient than storage and convection heaters. Hope this helps Ian! Let us know if you need anything else!

Hi Julie! Our Infrared Heaters are perfect for conservatories, though which wattage you need will depend entirely on the size and insulation of the room in question. Can the 350w heating panel be installed vertically i.e. h1195 w295?

Answer
Hi Rob! By our calculations, you would need around 1800W assuming that your room is adequately insulated. You could either go for a combination of IR Panels or we do also have an 1800W IR Bar Heater, though this may be a little intense for use in the home. You won't need any insulation behind the wall either, the IR Panels beam heat outwards away from the panel, though the back of the panel does get hot, it's absolutely nothing to worry about. Hope this helps, let us know if there is anything else you need from us!
Hi there
I'm thinking of mounting this on the wall behind my sofa, so it would radiate out into the room from above and behind me. Would this still effectively warm me, as opposed to if it were coming from in front?
Thanks!
Justin

Answer
Hi Justin! You should still feel pretty warm if the panel is being installed above and behind you - it tends to radiate the heat out evenly, so you shouldn't be left in the cold! Hope this helps - let us know if you need anything else!

I currently have to wall mounted fan heaters in my reception area, but the heat just goes straight up the stairs. Would this heat my reception are do you think. It’s about 6x3 meters with single glazing and stone walls.

Answer
Hi Dave! You certainly wouldn't get that problem with our Infrared Heaters, as the heat does tend to stay in the room when you have them on. Judging from the dimensions of your reception area and the level of insulation, I would say that you need between 1000-1200W of IR heat. You can either get yourself a 1200W panel, or you can split it across two panels, and get a set of two 580W panels for example. Hope this helps, let us know if you need anything else!
We have a meditation room approx 4 x 6 metres with artwork on the walls. We would like to heat the space using slimline heaters at low level mounted just above the skirting boards. This would mean we would need to be able to limit the surface temperature so they don't over heat the skirting and in case someone touched them. Would this be possible?

Answer
Hi Liz! Unfortunately there's no way of limiting the surface temperature, however, there's no need to worry about the skirting boards overheating. They will get warm but nothing more. Regarding anyone touching the surface of the panel, again there is little to worry about - think of it like a normal radiator which would also get hot when on too. Hope this helps Liz! Is there a minimum distance this heater needs to be away from flammable items like curtains. I am thinking about mounting under a window and the curtains would be about 100 mm above. There would be scope to increase this to a max of 200 mm. Just need to find out the safe distance before ordering. Thanks

Answer
Hi Paul! Generally we would advise to keep any objects no closer than 200mm to the panel, though we do use them in our office and keep things closer, so you may have some leeway. 200mm to your curtains should be fine! Hope this helps, let us know if you need anything else!
Do the next generation panels come with a UK plug or do they need to be hard wired?
Question
Do the next generation panels come with a UK plug or do they need to be hard wired?

Answer
Hi Karen,
All of our heaters come with a UK plug, but can be cut off if you wish to hard wire them. This would void the warranty as the panel would technically be modified.
Hope this helps
